JOHN FAULKNER

John Faulkner is a graduate of the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London and he has worked (under the Equity name of Richard Denning) as a producer, director, actor and singer in over twenty countries.

In London’s West End he appeared in The Good Companions at Her Majesty’s; Dandy Dick with Alastair Sim at The Garrick Theatre; Oh Mr Porter! at The Mermaid; The Mousetrap; The Seagull at the Duke of Yorks with Alan Bates; The Gay Lord Quex, directed by Sir John Gielgud; Me and My Girl at The Adelphi; Stepping Out at The Duke of Yorks and Illuminations at the Lyric Hammersmith, with Paul Eddington.

He appeared in the Royal National Theatre, (Cottesloe) production of John Lahr’s revue based on the life of playwright Joe Orton “Diary of a Nobody” and has worked extensively in UK regional theatre, including two seasons at the Chichester Festival Theatre.

John appeared for one year at the famous Casino de Paris as singer-host in Roland Petit’s revue “Zizi Je T’Aime”, starring French dance legend, Zizi Jeanmaire.

Recital work includes performances in London and the USA with the late Princess Grace of Monaco and Dame Judi Dench.

John has performed his cabaret act at Claridges Hotel, The Ritz Hotel, Kettners and The Dorchester Hotel

In the UK, he co-produced the West End version of Nancy Ford and Gretchen Cryer’s New York hit I’m Getting My Act Together And Taking It On The Road at The Adelphi theatre on Shaftesbury Avenue followed by a major, national tour of the UK with Ken Ludwig’s comedy Lend Me A Tenor.

At the invitation of the Swedish National Theatre, he produced a national tour of Sweden with Noel Cowards’ Cowardy Custard.

Since 2013, John and his wife Cecilia, co-produce plays with their own Singapore-London based company, the British Theatre Playhouse, touring UK productions to Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Sri Lanka

Productions include How The Other Half Loves: Funny Money: The Importance of Being Earnest”: A Bedfull of Foreigners: Private Lives; Alan Ayckbourn’s Relatively Speaking. Jim Cartwright’s play-with-music “The Rise and Fall of Little Voice”; Alan Plater’s musical “Blonde Bombshells of 1943” and the rock musical From a Jack to a King”.

In 2011 they produced (and John directed) the World Premier of the musical Buddy v The Killer- the lives and music of the Rock ‘n Roll legends Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis and, in 2012, a sell-out tour of Ray Cooney’s Out Of Order.: That was followed by the musical, big-band concert “A Salute to Sinatra” at the Marina Bay Sands Theatre.

In 2013 and 2014, the playhouse produced a sell-out tour of “The Mousetrap” in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and, most recently in May 2014, the highly successful stage version of “Yes, Prime Minister”.

In 2015 productions will include the farce “No Sex, Please – We’re British” and Noel Coward’s “The Vortex”.

TEACHING

In Singapore in 1991, John co-founded, with Brother Joseph McNally, the LaSalle School of Drama (Now LaSalle-SIA) John developed the school to become Singapore’s first, university-validated drama course (Bretton Hall College – University of Leeds) offering degrees on a 2+2 years basis.

John taught acting technique for the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation (MediacCorp) and singing at his own musical theatre school in Singapore
